According to Andy Mitchell, director of global media partnerships and news for Facebook, the social networking site officially launched FB Newswire last week, a feature comprised of hand-picked news stories from across the website.

Facebook has been working with Storyful, a popular news provider that cumulates news spread on social networking websites, for some time now to create a dedicated ‘FB Newswire’ exclusive to Facebook.

The news that appears on Newswire is to be hand-picked by a collective of Storyful journalists from around the world, ensuring quality content and stories which are genuine, i.e. not hoaxes.

Facebook Newswire will rely on a special algorithm to source breaking popular stories and will cover everything from politics and entertainment to sports and technology.
